Soil Water Interactions and transFer Team

The research conducted in our group aims at a better understanding of the soils’ functions involved in the regulating and provisioning services they provide. Among those soils’ functions, we focus more specifically on processes related to the regulation of soil water and soil quality (as related to the capacity of soil for water transfer and storage and their temporal evolution, a medium for plant water and nutrients acquisition and microbial activities) within a framework of global changes (climate, land use and agricultural practices).
The mathematical modelling of the studied concepts and their implementation in numerical models is carried out within the collaborative computing platform VSoil, maintained by the team. Vsoil enables to build and to couple numerical models simulating physical, chemical and biological processes occurring along the soil profile.
The activities of the team are organized within 4 main topics, with applications within the framework of climate change, ecosystem services and agro-ecological transition:

1. Analysis and modelling of the processes and parameters of water transfer in soil and of the water and nutrient acquisition by root systems of plants.

2. Analysis and modelling of the interactions between soil hydric properties and the “root-rhizosphere-microflora” system.

3. Methodologies for measuring soil and plant properties.

4. Development, maintenance and assistance in the use of the VSoil computing platform for modelling soil processes.
