CAN-EYE

CAN - EYE is an image analysis software for the extraction of structural characteristics of plant canopies (LAI, FAPAR, FCOVER, gap fraction) from digital images.

Origin

CAN - EYE was developed within the UMR EMMAH.

For whom?

CAN - EYE is a free software under license essentially intended for the scientific community working in the environmental field but this is not exclusive. Today, we count approximately 400 users.

To do what?

CAN - EYE was developed to process multiple images at once. Images can be color (R-G-B), or even already put in binary by the user. The software also includes a system camera calibration module + FishEye objective.

CAN - EYE contains a set of specific modules to improve efficiency, accuracy and processing flexibility and traceability:

  • Efficiency: a series of images is processed during 2 to 20 min. depending on the level of complexity of the images, the user experience and performances of the computer
  • Accuracy: the image conversion in binary image (vegetation/no vegetation) is carried out through a process of classification first automatic, which can then be refined interactively. This allows greater flexibility to separate green ground or the sky elements depending on whether the images have been taken into sight above (low vegetation) or under (forests, high vegetation).
  • Flexibility: CAN - EYE has a calibration module for the image acquisition, as well as the possibility to define an area of interest. Tools allow to a user to hide interactively parts of images contaminated by unwanted objects (user, places sur-exposés....). It is also possible to interactively zoom. .
  • Portability: CAN - EYE is easy to install and works under windows .
  • Traceability: CAN - EYE allows to trace all actions performed by the user during the processing. These are listed in a html report and results, as well as processing settings are saved in an excel file.
